Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis & treatment of hemorrhage in newborns.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Prophylaxis 0.5-1 mg IM 1-6 hr after birth. Treatment 1 mg IM or SC.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Coagulation effect is produced 1-2 hr after administration. Do not exceed recommended dosage. Phytomenadione antagonizes coumarin anticoagulants but does not inhibit heparin anticoagulants. Avoid IV administration.
Adverse Reactions
Hyperbilirubinemia, hemolytic anemia, hemoglobinuria; pain, swelling, tenderness at inj site. IV: Cyanosis, peripheral vascular collapse, hot flushes, sweating, chest pain, hyperhidrosis, shock, hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylactic reactions & deaths.
